Busy Busy

Well all is well with us. Not a whole lot to report. Meg's store is doing great, she's really turned it around and made it profitable. I've survived the christmas rush at RadioShack. My sales have been great. So much so that I've been promoted to Assistant Manager. I've begun management training classes to prepare me to run my own store. There are seen of us in the class and one of us will be the next store manager appointed to our own store. I'll be finished with training near mid march. Other than that it's business as usual. I'll try to post a bit more regularly.

As promised...

As of today I have officially begun a new career. I have accepted a position as a full time sales associate at Radio Shack. And yes it is every bit as glamourous as it sounds. But wait folks there's more. Now since I have completely trashed my previous ambitions for the future I needed a new long term plan. So here it is friends and neighbors. Meg and I are exploring the possibility of opening a "Jamba Juice" style fruit smoothie place. What's that you say? You think it sounds random? Well allow me to explain how this vision came into our lives. When Meg was working in Mountain Home idaho she used to get a cup of coffee from a place called Moxie Java every once in a while. Well one day she was feeling like a coffee before work in Brigham City, much to her dismay she discovered that not only does Brigham not have a Moxie Java- it doesn't have a coffee shop at all. So we thought , "I wonder what it would take to open a Moxie Java in Brigham City utah." We checked it out and it turns out that Moxie Java in fact has very low franchise fees. All seemed to be shaping up nicely, until we realized that we would need to make a pretty permanent home in Brigham City. Neither of us ever saw ourselves settling down there. So no big deal lets just figure out where we want to be. Well Meg's recent stay in idaho allowed us to get to know the area and we both really liked it. It's growing but not too big. So we decided we want to end up settling down in Mountain Home idaho. With that decided our next question is will another Moxie Java do well in Mountain Home? The answer is... well... no. There is already 3 Moxie Javas in the citya and it really doesn't need another one. So we were at a bit of a loss. Well what was it about a coffee shop that interested us in the first place? Basically it seemed like it was pretty realistic. There isn't a massive amount of overhead like there would be with a restaurant. It could be part of a strip mall and didn't need a big building. So we thought about other kinds of businesses that share those same qualities, yet are in need in Mountain Home. We came up with a Fruit Smoothie place. The first idea was to see if Jamba Juice offers franchise opportunities similar to Moxie Java. The don't where Moxie Java was eager to expand and offered low franchise fees, Jama Juice was expensive and very reserved in it's dealings. So we decided to look into starting our own. We would lack name recognition- but hey there's no franchise fees. I like the name Blenderz. I like it so much that I have designed a little logo for it. Even if we keep the name the logo will probably change, but I'll show it to you anyway.

We're also open to suggestions for names so don't be shy. Ok well that's about it for now. I'll try to keep up on my blog a bit better. Thanks to everybody who has been so supportive of my new decisions.

Where to begin...?

Well it's been a long time since I've posted a significant blog. I'll just start this off by saying that I have decided not to go into education. I am done with the theatre portion of my classes and have been taking mostly education courses. This is where I began to have a problem. I am finding that I don't want to be a teacher. When I made the decision to go into education I was just graduating high school and wanted nothing more than anything to be an actor. Well even then I knew that I couldn't maintain a stable life and support a family acting. So I decided to be a drama teacher. Well I'm now 24 years old and in the last 7 years I feel that I may have grown out of the need to be involved with theatre. It's a great hobby and though my high school drama experience could be picked out as the single most influential event in my life- I need to find something else. Theatre has defined who I am for a long time and it will always be important to me. I used to want to teach students the major lessons in acting that helped shape me into who I have become, but I have come to realize that it's not my place to teach them. I think I'll be happy teaching my own kids the life lessons that theatre has taught me. In the mean time I need to figure out what to do with my life. I have done lots of different things as far as jobs, but nothing that would make a great career. There are lots of things I want to do but again they all seem more like hobbies. Which leaves me wondering if a job can be more than a daily grind that you tolerate for 30 or 40 plus years until you can (hopefully) retire. I'm sure I'll find something that I can tolerate, even enjoy some days. But I have to get going - more to come soon - I promise.

Letting go

Letting Go

Once there lived a village of creatures
along the bottom of a great crystal river.
The current of the river swept silently over them all -
young and old, rich and poor, good and evil,
the current going its own way, knowing only its own crystal self.

Each creature in its own manner clung tightly
to the twigs and rocks of the river bottom,
for clinging was their way of life,
and resisting the current what each had learned from birth.

But one creature said at last, 'I am tired of clinging.
Though I cannot see it with my eyes,
I trust that the current knows where it is going.
I shall let go, and let it take me where it will.
Clinging, I shall die of boredom.'

The other creatures laughed and said,
'Fool! Let go, and that current you worship will throw you
tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks,
and you will die quicker than boredom!'

But the one heeded them not, and taking a breath did let go,
and at once was tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks

Yet in time, as the creature refused to cling again,
the current lifted him free from the bottom,
and he was bruised and hurt no more.

And the creatures downstream, to whom he was a stranger, cried,
'See a miracle! A creature like ourselves, yet he flies!
See the Messiah, come to save us all!'

And the one carried in the current said, 'I am no more Messiah than you.
The river delights to lift us free, if only we dare let go.
Our true work is this voyage, this adventure.'

But they cried the more, 'Saviour!' all the while clinging
to the rocks, and when they looked again he was gone,
and they were left alone making legends of a Saviour.

I Got The (slow salesman) Blues

Monday night I had an interview with my manager, who is also one of my very best friends in the world. I told him my goals for the summer and we decided that I needed to do at least 3 jobs a day for the rest of the summer for me to meet my goals. Well yesterday I got a grand total of one. Yep that's right I did one install all day. That's all most of us did, we were all only given one job for the day. Why? Because that's all there was to do that day. The salesmen are still learning too and aren't getting a whole lot of sales. Today I'll have 2 jobs but they are later in the day, so I won't be concidered for any same day jobs. I know it'll pick up and I'll be really busy soon but right now I need to be pushed it's the only way I'm going to get faster at doing these jobs.

Right now it's 5:30am and I can't sleep. The sun is starting to come up out the window. I can hear lots of birds chirping and traffic outside. Nathan (my roommate) is asleep. I think I'll go have a couple frozen waffels.

Up and at'em

Well I have arrived in Plymouth MN. alive and well. This morning I may have gotten up too early this morning. My other room mates have all slept a good 30 minutes more than me. We are to meet at the shed at 7:30am to get our assigned jobs for the day. I know I'll be doing 3 jobs and they are all spread out so it should be pretty easy. I am a little worried about finding my way around. I'll let you know how it goes. I did forget one thing in utah that I will need to replace here shortly- a belt. I'll keep you posted on that. Well I need to get going my roommate is getting up.
